Disasters and Emergencies
The National Council of NSPCAs (NSPCA) works with governmental bodies and local SPCAs to provide relief to animals and communities impacted by natural and man-made disasters occurring around South Africa.
Natural events such as fire or flood occur fairly frequently. The NSPCA responds by going to disaster stricken areas to work in conjunction with local authorities and emergency personnel to deal with the animals, as well as to give support and follow-up to affected animal owners. In the case of fires, back up would mean return visits to provide medical support and medication.
Emergency response includes transportation accidents and crises involving animals in transit at airports and harbours.
Traffic accidents involving farm animals occur regularly and are responded to by both NSPCA and local SPCAs around the country.
