NSPCA TO LAY CHARGES AGAINST STAFF OF EAST LONDON SPCA FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY.

It is a sad day in the world of animal welfare when the suffering of an animal has been inflicted by the very people entrusted to protect them.

Recently, a video of staff members from the East London SPCA inhumanely slaughtering an injured goose has been making its rounds across social media platforms and the news.

Today, the NSPCA confirms that the three employees in the video have been suspended by the East London Managing Committee, pending a disciplinary enquiry into the inhumane slaughter and handling of the goose confiscated from a property in East London.

Further to this, the NSPCA intends on laying charges of animal cruelty against the three members of staff identified.

Apart from the cruelty witnessed in the video, the NSPCA has not lost sight of the fact that the injured goose would have been confiscated by the SPCA for a reason. The NSPCA will, therefore, conduct an independent investigation of the alleged cruelty taking place on the property the goose was removed from.

“The NSPCA has a high expectation for animal welfare when conducting inspections, however, it must be brought to light that we hold an even higher standard amongst our member societies. The movement has been entrusted with the responsibility of protecting animals in our country, it is unacceptable for animals to be suffering at our hands. We have always said that it doesn’t matter who you are, whether you are a Minister or one of our very own, if you have contravened the Animals Protection Act, you will be dealt with accordingly.” – Marcelle Meredith, Executive Director.
