On 12th July 2021, South Africa fell into complete unrest with the province of KwaZulu-Natal being hit the hardest.

Over the past three weeks, the NSPCA has worked tirelessly to collect and raise funds for food and other goods to be taken to the aforementioned facilities across KZN.

To date, two trucks with a combined load of 4.5 tons of animal food and blankets have been sent by the NSPCA from our offices in Gauteng to KwaZulu-Natal. We also sent small teams throughout the week with additional food and blankets that we collected and delivered ourselves.

To date, the following SPCAs/shelters have received a ton or more of animal food from the NSPCA –

Mooi River & District, Pietermaritzburg, uMngeni, Amanzimtoti, Durban and Coast, Richards Bay, Eshowe, Empangeni, Lower South Coast, Dundee, Kokstad, and Estcourt Animal Welfare Shelter.

The remaining SPCAs, with the exception of Kloof and Highway SPCA who has enough food, will receive their ton soon as we continue collecting and raising funds to provide assistance.

The NSPCA has also managed to secure much-needed items such as baby milk formula and fruit and vegetables with a long shelf life for wildlife rehabilitation sanctuaries that care for compromised wild animals. We also secured farm animal feed for Eshowe SPCA. These various items will be distributed by the NSPCA in the coming week.

This travesty is a clear example of how we can overcome times of adversity by working together.

Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much!
