After Ten Years, Golf Returns to the NSPCA Calendar

The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) held its first golf day in a decade on Thursday, 20 August 2026, at Benoni Country Club. More than 110 players took to the course, joined by hole sponsors and prize sponsors who gave up a working day for a cause that doesn’t often get a fairway.

Golf days are, in theory, simple events. Book a course, sell tickets, sell holes, hand out prizes. What made this one different was who showed up and why. Players travelled in from across Gauteng and beyond, some with long histories of supporting the NSPCA’s work, others new to the organisation entirely. By the time the last group came off the 18^th, the course had become something closer to a gathering than a tournament.

A Day Funded So Animals Don’t Pay the Price

None of this would have been possible without dotsure.co.za, the event’s main sponsor, who covered the full cost of hosting the day. That decision meant every rand raised on the course goes directly to animals in need, rather than being absorbed into event overheads. It is the kind of sponsorship that does its most important work quietly.

The day was also carried by a wide network of hole and prize sponsors, each contributing in their own way to a course, a leaderboard and a prize table that reflected goodwill across sectors: KUL Business Solutions, Rest Ur Ass Donkey Sanctuary, Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre, South Gear Co, Warrick Muller, Old Mutual PFA Gauteng East, Mandeville Dog Training Club, African Packaging & Water Solutions, Power Meter Technics, Stefanutti Stocks Inland, Healing, Easyweb, Only Fangs Mobile Pet Grooming, Wright Inc Attorneys, Jenna Clifford, TAL, Goldwagen Brentwood Park and Anchor Capital.

Businesses, individuals and a donkey sanctuary among them. Different corners of Gauteng’s commercial and community life, standing on the same course for the same reason.

What Happened Between the Holes

Ask anyone who was there and the golf itself is only part of what they remember. From registration to the halfway house to prizegiving, the day was threaded with conversation, about why the NSPCA does what it does, about animals that had been helped, about the gap between what the organisation is asked to do and what it has the resources to do.

There is a word that came up more than once at prizegiving: togetherness. That is a fair description of what the day became. Not a fundraiser with golf attached, but a room full of people who understood, without needing much explanation, what the day was for.

Looking Ahead

Ten years is a long gap between golf days, and it is not one the NSPCA intends to repeat. Thursday’s turnout, and the willingness of sponsors and players to back the event so fully, points to an appetite for this kind of gathering going forward.
