The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) participated in the Rand Show for the first time this year. It gave us the opportunity to share our mission, educate more people, answer important questions, and spread awareness about animal welfare in South Africa.
From the moment the doors opened, our stand became a space of connection. Some people stopped by because they recognised the NSPCA, others were simply curious about who we are and what we do, and many were drawn in by Pluto, our friendly doggy mascot who quickly became a hit, especially with the children.
Over the five days, we had the opportunity to engage with hundreds of people. We had meaningful conversations with individuals and families who are deeply concerned about animal welfare in South Africa. People who wanted to learn more, ask questions, and find ways to get involved, including volunteering. That kind of engagement is what truly stays with us.

One of the highlights was the level of support we received. We completely sold out of our dog and cat treats, as well as our Thandoras, the soft and fluffy elephant toys. It was a clear reminder that people do care about animal welfare, and are willing to support it in whatever way they can. Every interaction, whether it was a purchase, a donation, or even just a conversation, made a real impact.
Spending time with children at the stand was also a special part of the experience. They were curious, engaged, and genuinely interested in reading the books and filling in the exercises.

Because it was our first time at the Rand Show, we really wanted our stand to present our mission and reflect the NSPCA in the best possible way, and it did. Our stand looked beautiful thanks to Brand Monster, a local supplier of branded materials, who supported our team. Their slim banners and wall banners helped make our space visible, warm, and inviting, allowing more people to find us and connect with our message. As the final day came to a close, we reflected on what an incredible experience it had been. Being at the Rand Show for the first time was a big milestone for the NSPCA. But what truly made it unforgettable were the people, every visitor, every supporter, every conversation.
To everyone who stopped by our stand over those five days: thank you! Your support, your interest, and your care for animals remind us that we are not alone in this work.
Together, we are building a more compassionate South Africa for all animals.
If you are as passionate about animals and their well-being as we are, consider supporting our causes by donating.
