Turning away vulnerable animals does not spare them from suffering – it condemns them to an even worse fate.

In a recent case, a surrendered dog who was turned away from an NPO was later found tied to a tree without food, water, or shelter.

When animals are refused by welfare organisations or left to fend for themselves, their suffering does not end – it multiplies. Many end up starving on the streets, hit by cars, or subjected to cruelty.

If an organisation takes money from the public, it should serve the public at large and never refuse to take in an animal. Selective admission is a betrayal of the trust placed in welfare groups to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Animal cruelty is being enabled through so-called “no-kill” policies, which often prioritise human emotions over the best interests of the animals themselves. No animal should endure prolonged suffering just to appease the feelings of people unwilling to face difficult but necessary decisions.

At the SPCA, we will never turn an animal away. By law, we are mandated to accept any animal brought to us, ensuring that every stray, abandoned, or surrendered pet has a safe place to go.

A responsible and humane euthanasia policy should be adopted by all animal welfare organisations. While humane euthanasia is a last resort, it is far kinder than condemning an animal to a life of neglect, pain, or abuse.

If you or someone you know can no longer care for a pet, please bring them to your local SPCA. There is no charge for surrendering a pet. Please don’t leave them on the side of the road, abandon them at an empty property, or give them away for free.I

Imagine seeking help at a hospital or homeless shelter, only to be turned away because there was “no space.” How would you feel – scared, desperate, abandoned? Now picture an innocent animal in that same situation, unable to understand why they’ve been left behind, only to end up tied to a tree, alone and helpless.

The SPCA will always be here.

If you are as passionate about animals and their well-being as we are, consider supporting our causes by donating.
